Very true Newt. The beauty of a brilliantly optimised website is that, as you say, users reach your site through typing in the exact keywords or phrases which relate to your products or services. This is such a different starting point to the customers who walk into your shop or past your trade stand.
Internet users have come to trust Google to provide relevant results, therefore if you are top of the listings, it follows that they believe you are able to offer them what they are searching for… as long as your website does it’s job properly once they click through…
For example, it’s not much good optimising a poorly designed website. The website needs to be attractive and enticing, simple to navigate and use, as well as being quick and efficient… get it right and you have the recipe for online success.

The comparison to a trade show is unique and apt. The conversion rate of trade show prospects can be very low… and you are right they are not necessarily very well pre-qualified.
