An excellent list, thanks. Do you have any analytics data on how this work actually pays off? That is, how the time spent pans out in terms of ROI?

Hutch, thanks for taking time to comment. Your point about FriendFeed couldn't be more timely. Were you advising Facebook on the acquisition? :-)

I find your point #3 to be so important. It's critical to understand (i) who is talking about your area of interest; (ii) what is trending now; and (iii) what content sources for your topic do others rely on. For me, FriendFeed is the way to go. You can set up groups that track the social web quite effectively: tweets, Delicious bookmarks, YouTube videos, etc. For anyone curious, you can learn more in this blog post of mine: http://bit.ly/SepPu

Good stuff -- thanks for calling my attention to Tweetworks and Twitterfeed. I'd add another important Twitter point: think about HOW it relates to your overall strategy for developing relationships. For me, Twitter isn't so powerful as a stand-alone medium; but when I use to it identify and develop friendships (solidified via phone, email and in-person), it's a powerful tool indeed.

[...] You may be wondering why something as seemingly simple as Twitter causes so much confusion and consternation among business people. Perhaps, it best likened to a tool like a hammer which is simultaneously simple and powerful. After all, a hammer can be used to put up a basic bookshelf or to build an entire home that will house a family for a lifetime……….[read entire story] [...]
