A Small Business Website That Works: How Adventure Training Concepts Delivers on the Web

By Newt Barrett | On July 17, 2009

adventure training concepts homepage Adventure Training Concepts(ATC) shows us quickly and precisely what they do and why should we should care

I met the founders of this company several years ago when they were just getting started. I always loved the idea of what they were attempting to do but had never looked at their website, until I reconnected with one of the owners, Michelle Jones.

ATC leverages the Armed Forces skills of its founders to teach leadership to the building of teams within a challenging adventure framework.

Of course, I knew what their company did because I had met them before. But I would have been just as clear about who they are, what they do and how they can help my company from a quick visit to their website.

Here’s what works so well on their website.

The ATC website features a compelling visual that shows a diverse company team engaged in a challenging activity that clearly illustrates the kinds of work that ATC does.  But, they don’t leave it up to the visual element alone.  At the top of the site, where we can’t miss it, they say, “Real adventure!  Real training!  Real results!” This promise is combined with a succinct, on-the-money quote from CEO Brian Jones, “There are employees and there are teams.  Employees have a boss.  Teams have leaders.  Teams make dreams a reality.”

This makes for a pretty big promise.  But they go on to use the ATC letters as an acronym for: Assessment, Team Training, Competency Enhancement.  These phrases serve as headers to brief descriptions of exactly what they mean as part of their brand promise.

If you want to learn more (and you probably will based on your experience with the homepage), simply click on the ‘Adventure Themes’ link and they explain exactly how those themes work and what they are. This page includes videos which evoke both the personality of ATC’s leadership team and the experience itself.

All in all, the ATC website does a stellar job of explaining to me exactly how they can solve my problems of developing lasting workplace leadership through their challenging and creative courses.  I know exactly what they do.  I know exactly how I would benefit.  And, it is very easy for me to take the next step of contacting ATC with the intention of hiring them.

A final note: they get the social media thing as well with a presence on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter.

Be sure to visit the Adventure Training Concepts website.  Even if you decide that you do not need their services, you will certainly learn something about effective online marketing from your visit.

Brian, it was easy to write positively about your site because you are doing exactly what I have been preaching about for the last 2 years. I’d like to learn more about how you developed your site and how well it’s working for you.
