How to Use LinkedIn Answers to Write an Outstanding Blog Post

By Newt Barrett | On December 4, 2008

caffeinated blog content manager Ask Smart Practitioners to Share Their Best Thinking, Synthesize Their Answers, and Give Them Lots of Credit.

Kari Rippetoe of The Caffeinated Blog comes up with lots of great stuff on her own, but she recently leveraged the expertise of many content-related experts to generate a post on choosing a content manager: Hiring a Content Manager? Here are the Top 5 Skills to Look For

The post itself is terrific and shows how good she is at taking a lot of raw information and shaping it into a relevant and valuable article.  So, from a content marketing perspective, it’s right on the money. But that’s not what intrigued me about her article. It’s how she energized a group of experts to help her.

Building on the Wisdom of a Small Crowd

Kari is demonstrating wonderful social media skills by engaging the right experts on LinkedIn to provide a host of good answers.  In many ways, this is what a great reporter does. But, she takes it an important step further.  Rather than hiding her sources, she shines a bright light on them.

She shares loads of credit for the article so that every contributor gets a warm shout out and, for many, she adds extensive quotes of the answers that served as a foundation for her ‘5 Skills to Look For.’

Just like a great leader, she winds up looking great because she empowers her team to look great. I was impressed.

Be sure to become an Kari aficionado and visit her site early and often: The Caffeinated Blog.

Wow this is a really interesting idea. I have often used the power of social and microblogging sites like Twitter or Plurk to gather insight and data for blog posts, but I never would have even thought to tap into the resources of professionals on LinkedIn. Great idea, great post!

Great idea for blog writing. Sometimes, though, I just gotta write and stop planning so much.
