MindManager 8 delivers a greatly enhanced set of mindmapping tools that enable one or more users to collaborate in person or online.

What is mindmapping and why should you care?  Basically, it is a way of organizing and illustrating information visually in the way that we actually think.

Even for those who consider themselves non-visual, a MindMap represents information within an intuitively obvious structure consisting of a central idea or goal with branches of ideas and sub ideas. It enables users to grasp and to remember even complex concepts very quickly.

For example, a MindMap of a book that you may have read long ago will pull you back to an understanding of what’s most important in that book within a few moments.  Here’s an image of a small slice of the MindMap of Get Content. Get Customers.  Even without reading the book, you can get a solid understanding of its contents from the MindMap.

Mindjet, the creator of MindManager 8 has been adding powerful functionality that transforms mindmapping from a conceptual tool into a planning and productivity tool. They have done this:

  • First, by integrating lots of other applications including  Microsoft Office, web browsing, project management, and social media.
  • Second, they have added collaborative capabilities by leveraging the Internet so that users can work together to create solutions interactively.

With MindManager8 they have gone even farther and taken the product from good to great.

My favorite new stuff in MindManager8:

  • Embedded Web Browser.  Now you don’t have to leave your MindMap to edit Microsoft Office documents or to go directly to websites that are linked within the map.
  • mindmanager8 player  MindManager Player.   You can now share your mind maps via enhanced PDF’s using the latest version of Acrobat Reader. The folks with whom you share can operate the PDF version just like a real MindMap in every respect except editing.
  • Task Automation. MindManager’s intuitive task management elements just got better.  You can now roll up multiple layers of task completion automatically saving enormous amounts of time.
  • MindManager Web.  You can do all your mind mapping online where ever you are within a secure online workspace.  You don’t have to download or install any software. You can also collaborate with your colleagues in a Web conferencing and collaboration session. It includes an integrated instant messaging service to enhance interactivity.

Very Easy to Get Started with MindManager 8

Of course, there is a lot more going on with the new version of MindManager. But, don’t be intimidated.

Although it might seem like you might face a steep learning curve, you can actually start off with basic mindmapping within a few minutes of installing the software. You will be almost immediately productive and can explore more advanced capabilities as your confidence improves. Best of all, you can try out everything for free.

Fair warning! Once you try it, you will almost certainly buy it

    Hey Newt,
Its strangely interesting that I found this post today. I have just spent a couple of hours watching Tony Buzan explaining mind-mapping.
I am a big fan already and have downloaded FREEMIND which is a open source stuff. But I am more inclined to try Tony’ IMINDMAP.
i suggest you do a follow-up post to do a comparison on how MINDMANAGER8 is better than the rest. What ya say!

One of the things that I like about Mind Manager is the pen support for Tablet PCs.

Mind Mapping seems to work better and quicker in my own handwriting… Allows the creativity to flow!

    Brett,
I’ve been using MindManager since its earliest iteration and have been using a tablet PC for about 12 months. I just stumbled on your whole Tablet PC blog; I didn’t know you had time for one more thing. :-) I agree being able to handwrite first is great.
I will be sure to check it out regularly.
