How to Make Your Complicated Service Easy to Understand

Many of us offer fairly complex sets of services that may be difficult to describe.  In fact, they might be too complicated for the classic thirty second elevator pitch. Don’t give up.  Follow Stephanie Diamond’s advice to use a mind map that strips away much of the complexity of your service offerings.

In her February Mind Jet newsletter column, Stephanie was challenged by a new company with a brand-new concept.  The company, Yovia.com, is a “social media optimization service agency.”  I know what you’re thinking.  What the heck is that?  Well, that was their problem.

Here’s how Stephanie describes the challenge:

A new social media agency called Yovia.com wanted to create an easy way for potential customers to understand their approach to social media optimization.  What makes them different from a search agency or other Web 2.0 service is that they create the structure and host social media content for vertical content blogs, Facebook®, bookmarking sites, etc.  They also have a private network of writers who create quality content.  No company starting their own social media program can hit the ground running and show growth as quickly without such support.

This all makes sense.  But it’s still fairly complicated.  So for the many of us who think visually, a mind map eliminates much of the complexity of Yovia.com’s solution set. It shows the basic structure and components of their services as well as links to detailed information.

As Stephanie indicates, since you can’t always be available to explain what it is that you do, a mind map that is available 24 hours a day can do the explaining for you. And, to reiterate Stephanie’s mantra, the mind map fulfills the mission of making it easy for their customers to buy from them.
