I have have long had a web design theory: If it’s good enough for the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, it’s probably good enough for me. As you probably know, AllThingsD.com from the WSJ is a WP site.
The next challenge is to make sure that WP-driven sites contain great, customer-centric content.

Ahhh…confirmation that I made a smart move! A few months ago when I started to plan a website for my new business, I got bids from both Wordpress designers and full-service web design agencies. But when I compared what I could get–and at what price–the choice was obvious. Some of the Wordpress sites looked just as professional as a “real website” (not my words). And the bids? Under $5k (and more like $3k) vs $15k and up (waaaay up). My site went live just a few days ago, and I am still making some tweaks. But overall, I am happy with it! Hi Newt, I was really excited to see you writing about blog-powered web sites because it's a favorite recommendation of mine! This is an incredibly important point for business owners who have no idea that they can use content management systems like Wordpress for a regular site. I've spoken about this same tactic on my site Local Na8ion (nation). Here's a video log example if you or your readers are interested called Why we recommend Wordpress. The other big thing happening that you touched on is that designers of Wordpress themes are finally starting to make themes that *don't* look so blog like in appearance. Give the market another six months and I believe this will be common and business owners will have tens to hundreds of designs that look like modern web sites, rather than blogs. Lastly, I hope that larger companies don't think this method isn't just for mom and pop organizations. Wordpress is a highly scalable application that when optimized can handle loads of web traffic. There's a reason The New York Times is an investor in Wordpress's parent company and a happy user.
