Genuine thought leadership from Fleishman-Hillard on the biggest generation.
Baby boomers have been an incredibly important element in American society ever since they first showed up in 1946. As the oldest boomers turn 62 in 2008, they will begin having yet another seismic effect on the US economy.
First they overcrowded elementary schools. Then, they overcrowded Washington, DC with peace protests. And soon, they may overcrowd the Social Security and Medicare systems.
Boomers were scary when they were young. They may be even scarier when they’re older. One thing for sure, they will continue to have a dramatic impact for decades to come. And, they should almost certainly continue to be your most important customers.
For content marketers who are trying to stay current with the latest gyrations of this generation, “theBoomerBlog.com” from Fleishman-Hillard is a wonderful place to explore.
theBoomerBlog.com is the creation of a savvy Washington, DC based public relations firm, Fleishman-Hillard. Unlike so many of their peers who hide their thought leadership under virtual bushels, the Fleishman Hillard folks, are front and center with an enjoyable and insightful blog. They describe themselves simply and precisely:
Fleishman-Hillard is the first global PR firm to offer a US-based practice group that is exclusively dedicated to helping companies build powerful relationships with the men and women of the baby boomer generation.
Chief blogger, Carol Orsborn, is also the co-author of a book, BOOM: Marketing to the Ultimate Power Consumer–the Baby Boomer Woman. Appropriately, she is described as a thought leader. Carol and her colleagues use content marketing effectively to establish their individual and collective thought leadership on how to understand and how to market to the boomer generation.
As they put it:
This time, smart marketers, regardless of their age, are joining in with their own “aha’s”, courageously overturning the status quo that reflexively favored younger consumers in order to connect with our era’s largest and most lucrative segment: men and women 42+.
Why a blog?
We quickly realized that we had more to say about the subject than could readily be communicated through traditional means.
The Boomer Blog is our solution, capturing our thoughts, discoveries and growing intelligence of a multi-generational team as we grapple with, report on and respond to the barrage of daily research, case histories and news that is rushing to catch up with this fast-moving generation.
The bottom line
If you’re looking for a place to go everyday to stay current on the never say die baby boom generation, theBoomerBlog.com is the place to go.
Even better, if you’re looking for a blogging role model, this is a great one. It has precisely focused on its target audience and on the topic at hand. Not only is it informative and insightful. It’s also fun to read.
Best of all, it’s great to know that something else is going on in Washington, DC other than government follies.
Check it out.

Hey… careful what you wish for. I took a Google peak at blogging in D.C., and found out that a lot of Congressmen have blogs — one that came up #4 in my search, Mike Conway’s Blog has archives going back to 2005. His blog includes a post by an intern that in part reads, “There is an energy that flows through DC that is intoxicating and takes over your body and your mind.” And that energy seems to be finding its way into Blogs, and thus Content Marketing.

I will actually offer a panel titled “Just Over 50 and Not Dead Yet’ on the same topic at South by Southwest Interactive on March 8.

We need to update our understanding of PR as it evolves into D-PR (digital PR). Blogging has a role but is juist a part of the equation. http://trenchwars.wordpress.com

The Boomer Blog is a great resource for Boomers, knowledge information and always right on target. Being a webmaster I find it provides a wealth of information and always gets me motivated to write quality content. It’s a must read if you are going to compete in this market and economic down turn.
Renee, I love what they’re doing. In fact, as a boomer myself, I can really relate. Thanks for the positive feedback.
