Seven Deadliest Content Marketing Sins.

By Newt Barrett | On September 18, 2007

It’s just as important to understand worst practices as it is to understand the best. Done right content marketing is a powerful strategic marketing tool.

Done wrong, it can be deadly. Make sure you’re not guilty of these sins:

1.Lack of buyer research.

2.Confusing information important to the business with information that is important to the customer.

3.Lack of integration between content initiatives and the rest of the marketing.

4.Disguising sales information as quality content.

5.Not integrating visual elements into your content. If your customer isn’t drawn into the content, they will choose not to engage in it.

6.Lack of measurement process. Failure to establish key benchmarks BEFORE beginning the initiative.

7.Aiming too high or too low. Develop content at the level of the reader…no more, no less.
