Old Schoool Marketing Gets Butt Kicked by New School Marketing

By Newt Barrett | On July 16, 2007

In a recent post, Joe Pulizzi, a grizzled content marketing veteran, provides 7 reasons why New School Marketing is kicking butt.

My favorite, since I’m an impatient guy(ready, fire, aim) is Number 7 on the old vs. new school view of business plans:

Old School - In order for a new business to succeed, the team must be organized and develop a business plan that makes sense.
New School - Screw the business plan. Get out there and get something done. Sell something. Create something. Save the business plan for when you need a loan or looking for investors. If you really want to create a plan, try a “to-do” list.

For many of us, we don’t have time for no stinkin’ business plan. If we wait til it’s done, our customers and our competitors will have blown past us.
