Make Content the Hero and Put a Hero in Your Content

By Newt Barrett | On July 15, 2007

Maybe a little hero worship is a good thing.

Blog expert, Brian Clark, talks about a great storytelling technique–Introduce a hero in your story and describe how he/she solves a major problem. It sure worked for Robert Ludlum and Steven Spielberg. It will work for you, too.

Although he makes the case for introducing heroes in your stories, I found his third paragraph disconcerting:

You likely already know that business blogging is not about blatantly self-promotional posts. Your focus should be building your authority and credibility with compelling content that provides true value. Over the long term, this strategy will easily convert a good percentage of readers into paying customers.

Surprisingly, a high percentage of current and future bloggers–and marketers–still miss the point. It continues to amaze me at how much infomercial stuff leads the way on the web.

Great content will always win in the end. Just like the hero he describes. You’ll like what he has to say.
